I'm Alive!

Hey Guys, I guess I can't really say it's been a long week. It's been a long.. quarter? Three months since I've written. How you're all doing out there. How much do people's lives change in three months huh?

As for me, mostly working. But there were fun moments sprinkled along the way. I went snowboarding for my birthday, even though years ago when I did it for the first time, I vowed I wouldn't get on a snowboard again. Well, after the trip, I bought one. So now I'm committed to liking it. So far so good.

My brother got me this pretty cool book called Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Kind of Kafka/Cyber punk. Plus Golden Unicorns and underground creatures. I recommend it, unless you're looking for that warm fuzzy feeling at the end. This one is definitely lacking in the warm fuzzies. =)

I'm still trying to get my own website together. Until then, you'll be hearing more from me here. I'm going to end this blog with something absolutely hilarious. You gotta watch it:

Popsicles

Do you guys ever feel “frozen”? No, not like popsicle frozen, but.. ungrown?  I’ve been feeling popsicle-ish. It feels like time is flying by me, everyone else is moving past me,  and the only thing that doesn’t seem to change, or want to change,  is me.

I don’t particularly like the hot weather and the pounding sun on my skin in the summer. But I love summer, even though I don’t get summer vacation anymore. I think it’s because so many special memories I’ve had growing are associated with this time of year. When everyone is outside wearing sandals, a collage of smiles and laughter. Kids chasing the ice cream truck, white people with lobster tans. Summer time is when I can feel the most carefree.  When the blue skies and puffy clouds are teasing me to smile, and to be happy.

I know I must be getting old, because I’ve been reminiscing a lot this summer. I went to the AMC theater in the Milpitas Town Square last night. It was Terrific Tuesday, only a buck fifty, yes, $1.50, to watch a movie! You have to deal with the flat hierarchy of seat rows, flat uncushioned chairs, and a weird old musty theater smell. But besides that, it isn’t all too bad. I remember when I was in middle school, even high school, going to the movies was a privilege. Quite frankly, that 4 bucks was just too expensive. But my older brother still decided to take me and my little bro to go watch “My Neighbor Totoro.”  It was a great movie! Despite the fact that the move screen was as big as one of those large screen TVs. I guess we took too long to decide if we should watch it in the theater or wait for the video to come out. Haha. Things mean more when they are not so easily obtained.

And maybe that’s why to me, my childhood memories are overwhelmingly, painfully beautiful. Because we had so many small joys that meant so much. And of course, you don't have nearly as many problems as a kid. People our age go clubbing and partying, drinking, go on trips. We have different types of entertainment as we get older, and that’s perfectly logical. I’ve realized perhaps I’ve been resisting growth and change because I just don’t want to lose those joys that seem so far away now. You can’t stop going because you’re afraid. And finding refuge in past memories won't help the present either. I’m going to try to get out of  anti-social mode and be “grown-up.” That’s gonna be hard though. I’ll settle for grown-up kid.
